Journalism has died in America. That is the part of the fourth estate that is supposed to report on political issues and politicians. They have given up on the idea of objectivity and fairness. They have no use for facts in most cases and, because of that, they are known as propagandists. The best way to
avoid fake news USA media delivers is to understand what it is, first.
Recognizing the reporting that does not even pretend to be fair can be seen by looking at the reporting of the current President of the United States. Since he was constitutionally elected in Nov. 2016, he has been the subject of the worst reporting of any recent president except for President Obama. The different treatment for each is telling, though.
Since November 2015, right after he announced his intents to run for office, the media has attributed so many things, thoughts and actions to The Donald, it is amazing anyone still likes him. If he was a racist, based on any real event or comments of his, the press, telling all who listen to them, that he was a racist would be bad news to report. It would, however, be accurate, thus real. But to report, with the aid of anonymous sources, that he is when he is not, is lying and fake reporting.
There are reports that every leader of all foreign countries laughs at him as a foolish person. This, of course, based on statements from most of those leaders, is false reporting and vindictive because he does not agree with the new agency and their worldview. To avoid this type of reporting, you must know how it came to be and what it sounds or looks like.
Journalism was in the process of killing itself between 2008 and 2009 when it began the fake reports of President Obama. Nothing that Barack said or did was bad or wrong. Nothing he said or did caused any issues that made people think that the leaders of any foreign country were not laughing at his foreign policies. This was made up stories based on the media loving this president regardless of the facts on the ground. They do not love Trump, so the stories are mostly false.
Looking at some story, identify if it is based on the person instead of the ideas, policies or plans they are proposing, it might possibly be made up. If that piece you are hoping to get some good information from is based almost solely on anonymous sources, it is also something that must be taken with a grain of salt. In order to be a substantial piece of fact finding work, it must be able to be proved. It also must be proved in the piece, otherwise, it should not be taken as reality.
A well known conservative talk show host coined the phrase drive by media to indicate their type of operation. Just like a drive by shooting, this type of media simply shotguns stuff out there and hope it hits who they are aiming at. It is dangerous and not at all redeeming or objective. It is meant to destroy.
Being a well rounded person, you need to only read information that provides the knowledge you must have in order to understand the political world in which we live. If you can not accomplish this with something you read, it is probably the fake kind of news that is not helpful in helping you understand the issues. Giving the drive by media exposure for making things up is not the right thing to do.
